Kalaisan Kalaichelvan: Golconda
Credits
We are very proud to release Kalaisan Kalaichelvan's beautiful seven-track EP, Golconda.
Kalaisan Kalaichelvan was born to a Sri Lankan Tamil family, displaced by war, and grew up learning Carnatic music – South Indian classical music – in the suburbs of Scarborough, Canada. Today he is an in-demand composer for film, and makes music which is contemporary and classical, ambient and minimalist — drawing upon the multiplicity of traditions he has encountered. In 2023 he won the SOCAN Emerging Composer Award.
Golconda is his first EP, and features the award-winning Dior Quartet on strings, alongside piano, percussion and electronics. Sometimes pretty and yearning, at other times brimming with haunting textures and questions, Kalaisan’s EP of stunning short tracks showcases a producer marking out a distinctive creative vision.
